A little bit about me

My self-portrait
My self-portrait
Born in Coventry, I lived for many years surrounded by the wonderful agricultural landscape of Warwickshire, which is often the inspiration for my paintings. Since moving to Hampshire I have become inspired more by colours of the local land and seascapes.

Since early childhood I have felt the need to create my own little dream world, all bright and colourful. I would day dream (mainly about horses) and draw and paint how I would like things to be. In adulthood I found myself loosing this freedom, doing mainly commissioned animal portraits. Finding these stifling I stopped painting for a few years, until I gave in to the need to escape and day dream again. I now paint freely in joyous colour with gooey paint, and it makes me very happy indeed.

I paint mainly in acrylics as the quick drying time gives me chances to change my mind as the work develops. I start with an idea often inspired from what I have seen or a memory, but I do not know where my imagination will take it until it is finished. The paintings are an idealised reality that celebrate nature with colour, texture and line.
