Artist's Biography

I was born in India in the sixties, and I grew up in South East London. Home was always a very creative environment. My mother is skilled in appliqué and an expert in dressmaking. And so we grew up surrounded by an abundance of colour and texture from the materials lying around the house. Silk threads, coloured chalks, paper patterns and scissors were always at hand. I think this is where my passion for all things creative was born.
As a child there was nothing more enjoyable than creating drawings, cutting gluing and stitching. Of all the creative activities, drawing was my favourite and i'd spend hours copying characters from my weekly Donald and Mickey comic!
At 15, I was given an opportunity to attend extra classes at Camberwell School of Arts. At the time I didn’t realise what a valuable opportunity this was for me and I didn't take advantage of the offer. I attended one class and never went back.
I returned to art in 1997. Bored with office work I enrolled myself on to an art course at West Thames College. One of the few good moves I have made in my life. It was an amazing course. A turning point for me. Enriching, expanding and nurturing. I was awarded for creativity and commitment. I then went onto study graphic design which I passed with distinction.
