Large oil on canvas. Semi abstract representation of the 'Welsh Atlantis' , Cantre'r Gwaelod. In Welsh legend, Areas of Cardigan Bay were once Fertile lowlands, farms and forest, protected from the sea by a series of dykes and causeways. The area was overwhelmed by the sea around the year 450. The catastrophe was blamed on the gatekeeper, Seithenin, who was asleep at his post. Geology of Cardigan Bay reveals a series of stone and shingle reefs and a submerged forest, remnants of which can be seen at low tides.
