Interview with the artist

When and where did you first exhibit your work?
Bayswater Road
The largest open-air art exhibition in London, on the railings of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, is where I showed my first collection.

Have any of your artworks ended up in unusual or famous places?
Yes, Buckingham Palace.
I was commissioned to engrave a large crystal bowl for Prince Charles and Lady Diana. This was their wedding gift from the London Branch Parachute Regiment, of which HRH Prince Charles is the Commander in Chief.

Where do you work, do you have a studio?
Yes, I have a custom built studio in my garden. It is south facing and overlooks a valley with rolling hills and the sea beyond.
I am surrounded by fields with horses, sheep and cattle, and see lone walkers and their dogs on the horizon.
All very inspiring.

What is the best tip you can offer budding artists?
Simple, believe in yourself.

How would you define Art?
Art to me is a continuous discovery. I never tire of art, there are always so many things I want to paint, it is a daily challenge.

Do you find art relaxing?
Art is incredibly relaxing when it is going well.

Did a particular person or event spark your interest in art?
No. It has always been there, I can remember doodling as a very small child. I would follow my mother around pleading for her to draw something for me to copy. She says she isn't artistic, but she is very creative in many ways other than painting.

Which artist, past or present, would you like to study under or collaborate with
Too many

What is the best thing somebody could say about your art?
The best thing anyone could say about my art, is that they enjoy it.

Are you messy or neat when you work?
I suppose I must be honest and admit to being messy. I asked my husband and he roared with laughter, and I had thought I was quite organised.
