About My Art
As a child I was encouraged to draw and paint and at school it was the only subject I excelled in....... It was many years before art came back into my life as a single man in London with little money in the 'swinging sixties' As a transport professional the opportunities in painting ships and terminals were many and visiting the Royal Society of Marine Artists exhibitions were an inspiration for many years.
However, it was twenty years before watching fishing boats in Eyemouth re-started my interest. Thereafter, some night school practice took me into painting industrial scenes and it is through them that my work is mainly known. The Chemical Works of the North & South Bank of the River Tees along with adjoining steelworks became my bread and butter work as I became a semi-professional artist about 5 years ago.
Whilst I am told I have some talent in the watercolour field of landscape and industrial my 'heroes' are those who can paint portraits and especially vibrant figure work such as Augustus John; Lucien Freud and especially John Bratby.
At the request of clients I now work in oils and acrylics as well as my favoured watercolours.
