About My Art

I work in Pencil, Pen and Ink and Watercolour.
My pencil work are mainly doodles. I like to use soft pencils because of the blending you can achieve with your fingers or rolled up pieces of kitchen roll. Nude figures particularly lend themselves to this technic.
For the pen and ink sketches, I use a dip pen with either a gillot 303 or 404 nib and indian ink. The paper is cartridge paper, obtained while working as a computer engineer at a paper distributor. The edges had been damaged on the pallet, no use for the printing press, so the owner manager gave them to me rather than scrap them. Most of the sketches are of towns and villages in my locality. The originals are A3 size. Lithograph prints are produced from them at A4 size. Of the pen and ink work Five illustrated books have been published.
Most of my art is now in watercolour. I was led into this by many requests from the local people to colour my pen and ink work. This was not possible so I began producing new work in colour, of cause the were ready-made scenes in black and white.
I use Windsor and Newton watercolour paints. The work is carried out on Bockingford 250lb paper, so I do not stretch my paper as it's quite thick. The originals are A3 size, these are scanned electronically and from this Giclee prints at the same size as the original are produced
