About My Art

A little education, it is said, can be a dangerous thing. In the field of ART, it can also be an advantage. Other than school, the lack of a formal art education required me to experiment extensively to achieve some proficiency in various techniques but that fundamentalist approach enabled me to aquire a few vital skills along the way. Apart from obvious frustrations, such trial and error has not been without its benefits, of which the most important, was learning to SEE. To me, art, indeed life, lies less in the obvious, more in the detail.
If I were to choose a favourite medium, it would probably be graphite pencil. I enjoy doing highly detailed work on the focal feature of a piece, with a loose, sketchy and more suggestive approach on the surrounding area, the better to draw the viewer's eye to that one essential element.
My work is certainly not confined to drawing however and embraces a diverse range of styles.... from realism to impressionism and surrealism and in a polyglot of media; from oils to acrylics; pastels to collage....MIXED media indeed. From wildlife to cartooning, l love experimenting. Hopefully the proficiency curve spirals progressively upward!
I am always interested in the comments of any who view my art, whether they intend to buy or not! So feel free to let me know your thoughts.
