John Watchorn
Artist's Biography

I have always been interested in art but, as in many other cases, never seemed to have the time to devote to it consequently I am largely self taught but have had the good fortune to meet many gifted artists locally who have given me inspiration.
Having been encouraged by my wife Lesley to take up painting again some 30 years ago I had some success in the Nancy Kaminski annual competition in 1978 and reached the finals at Selfridges. This had the effect of giving me confidence in my ability and when taking early retirement some 6 years ago encouraged me to join a local art class and to start painting again.
My main interests are in landscapes, seascapes and some wildlife - mainly in oils and acrylics.
As a native of the Fens I have always enjoyed the big skies and especially the glorious sunsets.
The wonderful East Anglian coastline is also close at hand and provides many artistic possibilities.
My ultimate goal is to one day have my own one man exhibition . I have taken part in the Cambridge open Studios for the first time in 2006.
I have also recently started giving classes for beginners in oil painting.
