Artist's Description

this is a stunning pastel pencil portrait of a bird of prey.
My reference photo was kindly given to me to use by my friend, Jenny Halyer, who had the privilege of not only watching this hawk put through her paces, but also to hold her outstretched gloved hand for Dyllis the hawk to alight back on, after she had flown freely for awhile.
Here is some more information about red tailed hawks, they originate in North America
body length is 17 to 22 inches
wing span is 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet
weight is 1 1/2 to 3 1/4 pounds.
