About My Art

I have always loved drawing and creating, using images and colours, which harmonise and add a touch of life to wherever they are used. Flowers are particularly inspiring because of their different forms and colours, and I tend to use watercolour for the contrasts of delicate and bold shades.
I have an eye for detail and prefer realistic images to abstract, with a particular interest in 'trompe-l'oeil' techniques, appreciating the technical abilities of artists such as Salvador Dali.
Painting portraits of people's pets is really satisfying as it is so personal and gratifying when the work is appreciated. I like to paint images that please the eye of the beholder, to give them the 'feel-good factor', and hope to add a little colour to their lives.
Recently, I have been tempted to try my hand at semi-abstract work, feeling the urge to go for something bigger and bolder for a change. I have chosen flowers as my subject, taking just a small section and enlarging it to fill the canvas and using the medium of oil rather than watercolour. Encouraged by friends and family after seeing my first attempt, I have found new energy and enthusiasm. Perhaps I have at last found a style that will identify me as an artist!
