About My Art

I paint almost entirely in acrylics, and really appreciate the versatility of this medium. I only paint with primary colours and no more than 2 secondary colours in my palette. I enjoy the challenge of mixing colours myself instead of squeezing them right out of the tube.
I usually take a long time deciding what subject or image to paint, but my favourite subject matter is an unexpected close-up view. I also enjoy painting people and trying to capture a certain moment or mood in a painting. Basically I enjoy capturing ‘slices of life’. At the moment I am focusing on portraits, which are a fantastic challenge.
I have also delved into landscapes and seascapes, and fantasy – usually fairytales for children’s bedrooms, which is a lot of fun!
I paint the majority of my pictures from photographs I have taken myself with my trusty digital camera. I prefer to do this so that I can take my time to get a painting just right and how I like it. To me, painting is a continual learning process in itself, and I find that my style gradually changes with each painting. Hopefully they get better every time!
