About My Art

I aim to have exciting work. I paint in strong, colours often close in tone, using bold and atmospheric images. I enjoy using transparent effects produced by overlaying colour.

I really enjoy feline painting and am an associate member of The Society of Feline Artists. In the summer of 2008 I went with other member of the Society to observe some beautiful large wild cats at a Sanctuary in Kent. This was a wonderful day and gave me lots of inspiration for paintings, so I hope you will look out for these. There were lions, cheetahs, tigers and leopards amongst the variety of wonder feline animals.

My images are often moving towards semi-abstraction. However I also paint figurative subjects including portraits and animals, especially cats as noted above. My subjects may also include the buildings I see around me in the landscape of my village or my travels.

I do not like to be tied to one medium, so will use watercolour, acrylic paint, oil colours or a mixture of these in my painting, including collage sometimes. I love the luscious colours that can be squeezed from a tube of oil paint and the way in which it can be mixed with other colours, to thickly apply to board or canvas with delicious effects. Equally watercolour is beautiful when applied in pure colour to watercolour paper, to produce delicate transparent effects. I love to exploit the qualities of each medium to its full extent.

I am also a print maker using a variety of methods to produce one off, very original fine art prints from lino-cuts, silk-screen printing, etching and mezzo tints. I am a member of the Leicester Print Workshop where we are very lucky in our city to have facilities to print using specialised equipment.

Leicester has many talented professional artists with a new cultural quarter being developed. I have joined a group of artists where I have my own studio space and have paintings available for sale with our regular exhibitions. Our latest exhibition is in this new cultural quarter. Look out for these and our Tea Parties at our studios, where you can come to look at our work and have a free cup of tea with refreshments.

I am taking my studies in art further on a Fine Art Degree course at DeMontfort University, studying part-time.
