Michael H Wilson
Interview with the artist
What is the first artwork you ever sold?
A copy of my digital paintings Dolphantis and Welcome Home.
What is your favourite media and why?
Acrylic paint and inks, as they are the most practical medium that I have ever used, in terms of creating thin and thick layers, textures, physical 2D/3D effects, and short drying times.
Did a particular person or event spark your interest in art?
From a young age, I was inspired by my grandfather who painted A5 sized watercolours and my mother who was often active in arts and crafts.
How long does it usually take you to complete an artwork?
There is no average time; an artwork can take from weeks to months to complete, dependant on complexity.
When and where did you first exhibit your work?
Capgemini's "Unlimited Art Exhibition" and auction in support of the London Sports Forum for Disabled People, March/April 2001. This was both at their Shaftsbury Avenue, London offices for staff and public viewing, and online.
Do you have a favourite amongst your own artwork?
I am pleased with the results of all my paintings.
Have any of your artworks ended up in unusual or famous places?
No
When did you first start?
From school days.
What media would you like to try out?
Sculpture in wood, stone and metal.
Have you ever had an art-related disaster?
No
Where do you work, do you have a studio?
I work in my living room at home.
Are there other artists in your family?
Yes, my sister.
What was the last exhibition you visited?
Kandinsky: The Path to Abstraction at the Tate Modern, London.
Which artist, past or present, would you like to study under or collaborate with
Constable, Kandinsky and Picasso.
What is the worst thing somebody could say about your art?
I am pleased with all my artistic creations; therefore I cannot be offended by other person's perceptions or comments.
Are you messy or neat when you work?
Neat.
Do you display your own art at home?
Yes, my living room and hallway also serve as an art gallery.
Do you find art relaxing?
Yes, very.
