Peter Gander Paintings. As a full-time professional art director I have been lucky enough to have been drawing for over 20 years on a daily basis, but painting brings a whole new set of interesting challenges, especially watercolours, which is a hard medium to master. Painting allows me to express myself entirely - unlike the 'day job', it's no longer about 'bespoke' designs to someone elses' dictates and deadlines. It's utter freedom. I still commute to central London to work as an art director in an advertising agency and thus have to discipline myself to spending at least two nights per week painting. So far this had paid off, with several local Whitstable shops now stocking my postcards and prints, notably 'Taking the Plunge'; 'Sundae Sundae' and 'Whitstable Framing'. An exhibition at Whitstable's 'Horsebridge Arts Centre' in the summer of 2008 saw the launch of my popular retro-style series of seaside prints and postcards 'Winderful Whitstable' and 'Best wishes from Whitstabubble', which were very popular and I have extended this series this year with 'WhitstaBALL' and 'We've enjoyed Whitstable's HUTspots!' Following a successful show again this year at The Horsebridge in November I am producing linocuts (see blog below). Happy viewing!
