About My Art
Many people have asked me what I enjoy doing the most and I always find that question very hard to answer because it really does depend on my mood!
There are days when I loose myself in the intricacy of detailed portraits and other days I abandon myself to messy, textured abstract work.
The latter can be quite exhilirating as the canvas changes with each splash of colour or working in of texture. Some of those artworks are inspired by the wonderful sea/landscapes on my doorstep and I love trying to capture the atmosphere of storms or mist covered moors.
I also enjoy experimenting with different mediums and finding new ways to create exciting effects on the canvas or board. Some of my more recent portraits have been underlaid in acrylics and then finer detail added with soft pastels. Once the pastels are smudged over the dry paint it gives a lovely translucent effect to skin tones, which works particularly well in studies of young children and babies.
Part of me feels that I haven't quite found 'my style' yet, but I am thrilled every time someone says they enjoy my work. For me this is the ultimate reward:-)
