About My Art
I am blessed to live in a wonderfully beautiful corner of the British Isles and much of my inspiration is taken from the world around me. The ever-changing weather and Hebridean light creates amazingly dramatic scenes in and around our rugged, yet stunning coastline and no matter how often I return to my favourite haunts they always appear different.
I also enjoy observing the work of other artists and and find those studies very inspirational.
I have always enjoyed drawing and this passion has followed me throughout my life, which has lead me to specialise in Graphite Portraits. One of my aims is to try and capture the 'essence' of my subjects and it is something that I am hoping to have more time to study in the future.
However, when the mood takes me I also like to 'experiment' and one of those experiments created a unique collection of original artwork - paintings on Harris Tweed!
They were first exhibited at the inaugural Aberdeen Art Fair in August 2011 and were well received. Since then the 'Tweedies' as I call them, have found new owners across the globe and I am delighted that in 2012 two of them were purchased by the Harris Tweed Authority for display in their offices at Stornoway Town Hall.
