About My Art

My paintings are bold and strong and usually large and very colourful. I paint everything from abstract works and flowers to natural objects and nudes but much of my recent work has been focused on musical instruments, in particular cellos and saxophones.
One of the exciting results of the musical paintings is that I have been contacted by musicians from Australia, the USA, UK and Switzerland to gain permission to use my images for concert tour posters and various other events. The most recent is for the cover of a CD by well known New York musicians. It is very exciting to think of my paintings being used this way.
The paintings generally range in size from 10 in x 10 in to 3ft by 4ft and lots of sizes in between.
Printmaking is a fairly new area of interest for me but I find it very compelling. Past work in this medium resulted in a series based loosely on the Kimono shape. These were great fun to work on as I was able to combine pattern, colour and asymetrical design, all of which I love. Recently I bought my own press and have started experimenting with new ideas and techniques.
My work is about joy and colour and is hopefully uplifting as I feel there is enough that is depressing in the world without me adding to it. I paint in acrylic , oil and mixed media and have recently been experimenting with lots of texture.
