About My Art

For as long as I can remember I have enjoyed painting and have had a fascination with vivid colour. Even now, the main reason I am driven to paint is colour and the effect light plays on it. I also love the way fleeting light effects affect the texture and mood of landscape.
I paint landscapes, seascapes and bold, vivid flower paintings in oil pastel. I have a website dedicated to flower art (www.flowerportfolio.com). Although I like to paint in watercolour, inks and acrylics, my preferred medium is pastel; both soft and oil pastels. I love them for their immediacy, myriad colours and their sometimes crunchy, sometimes velvety textures. They also remind me of playing with crayons as a child!
I have a B.Ed (Hons) in Art & Design and taught in Manchester schools before deciding to paint full time. I do, however, still run art workshops now and again. I have also exhibited in numerous exhibitions and am currently planning (and working hard towards) my next solo.
I'm a professional associate of the S.A.A. and a professional member of the International Oil Pastel Society.
