About My Art
I work mainly in acrylics using bold colour and strong line and in much of my work there is a strong graphic influence. I love colour and contrast and often like to create real impact with my paintings. Acrylic is my preferred medium as I love its versatility, and now I am also adding silver & gold leaf to my work to give it another dimension.
Whilst studying Art I was influenced greatly by the Abstract Expressionists and their strong use of colour, but I particularly enjoyed all aspects of art & design in the Art Nouveau movement. I love the work of Alphonse Mucha and Gustav Klimt from this period.
I also have a love of stained glass windows and admire the work of Tiffany. As well as stained glass I love ceramics and particularly the work & colourful designs of Clarice Cliff and William Moorcroft too, which are also pretty much from a similar period in history.
Key to my work is the bold colour, the black curving, flowing lines and shapes, particularly hearts. In recent work it is unlikely that you will find many paintings without at least one heart featuring!
In November 2013 I found the confidence to get out and do my first Art Fair, a big exhibition titled The Windsor Contemporary Art Fair. This was a big step for me after hiding myself away for some years. I had such fun that I am now looking forward to taking part in further exhibitions once more, and similar art fairs, in the years ahead.
