Tracey Wood
Interview with the artist
What is the first artwork you ever sold?
The first artwork I ever sold were pet portraits for friends, this went on to other people locally through word of mouth and lead to me setting up my own web site and joining the Mini Gallery.
When and where did you first exhibit your work?
I first showed my work at the Addingham Original Art Exhibition, about 4 years ago.
Do you have a favourite amongst your own artwork?
One of my favourites amongst my own artwork is 'The Lion Family'.
When did you first start?
During 2002.
What media would you like to try out?
I would like to do some acrylic paintings over the next year.
What is the best tip you can offer budding artists?
As a relatively new artist myself, I would say...
'Have fun, I enjoyed trying different materials and techniques in the beginning and when I found I loved pastels I stuck with them for a while and continued to learn and grow. I like to try something new now and again, either with pastel technique, subject matter or a total change of medium and when I come back to my favourite pastels, I feel my work benefits and improves.'
Do you have an unusual 'day job'?
My day job is as a Nursery Nurse working with 4 and 5 year olds. There are some great artists amongst them.
Are you messy or neat when you work?
I am quite neat and methodical when I work (my husband may say differently), but the nature of pastel drawing is a little messy.
Do you display your own art at home?
I do dispaly my own art in my home. My family are my biggest fans and I find I get quite attached to a drawing, especially if it has taken a while to draw, so it's nice to hang it up and continue to enjoy it for a while.
What is your favourite subject and why?
I enjoy drawing animals or flowers mostly and if a particular scene catches my eye I will draw that too. I don't know why these subjects are my particular favourites though.
