About My Art

Why paint? Why not take a photograph? I paint because I am less interested in simply recording the actuality and more interested in expressing a personal interpretation of my chosen subject in terms of my chosen medium. Sometimes it's about exploring the subject in terms of pure colour; sometimes it’s about investigating form and texture. Most often it's simply about trying to capture the mood of a given moment in time.
Why watercolour? Because it is a unique, beautifully expressive medium and because it is one that I don't believe I will ever fully master. I love the constant challenge it presents and it is a medium that I return to again and again. I like its unpredictability and really enjoy exploring new ways of using it to achieve different and exciting results.
Although watercolour is my first love, I am now developing an interest in other media which include pastels, acrylics and oils and I am using these to explore new and diverse themes such as the figure and architectural subjects.
