| Aubrey Beardsley (1872-98) was a British illustrator who was virtually self-taught. He was encouraged by Burne Jones. As illustrator of the periodicals ‘The Yellow Book’ and ‘The Savoy’ and of several books, including Oscar Wilde’s ‘Salome’ and Alexander Pope’s ‘Rape of the Lock,’ Aubrey Beardsley achieved notoriety. His imagery is grotesque and erotic with designs composed of curved lines of Art Nouveau style. |
