Aubrey Beardsley (1872-98) was a British illustrator who was virtually self-taught. He was encouraged by Burne Jones. As illustrator of the periodicals ‘The Yellow Book’ and ‘The Savoy’ and of several books, including Oscar Wilde’s ‘Salome’ and Alexander Pope’s ‘Rape of the Lock,’ Aubrey Beardsley achieved notoriety. His imagery is grotesque and erotic with designs composed of curved lines of Art Nouveau style.

Aubrey Beardsley
Beardsley's work is looked at alongside the work of contemporaries such as Oscar Wilde, Max Beerbohm and W.B. Yeats and against the backdrop of the artistic, literary and social life of fin-de-siecle London, Dieppe and Paris. more information>>
