| Sandro Botticelli (c.1445-1510) was a Florentine Renaissance painter nicknamed “little barrel.” Botticelli trained under Filippo Lippi and his chief patrons were the Medici with works including illustrations for Dante’s ‘Divine Comedy’ and allegorical paintings such as ‘Primavera, Birth of Venus’ and ‘Mars and Venus.’ In 1481-82 Botticelli worked on frescoes for the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. |
