| Pieter Brueghel the Elder (1525-69) was a Flemish painter noted for his often satirical scenes of peasant life and his landscapes. He studied under Pieter Coecke van Aelst, whose daughter he later married but was chiefly influenced by Bosch. In 1563 he settled in Brussels where he created some of his best known paintings such as ‘Peasant Wedding’ and the ‘Labours of the Months’ series. |
