| Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) was an Italian painter and forerunner of Surrealism who was born in Greece. He trained in Munich and was influenced by the philosophy of Nietzsche. In Paris Giorgio de Chirico worked on scenes of eerie and deserted Italian squares. At Ferrara he established with Carlo Carrá the school of metaphysical painting but reverted to a traditional style in 1919. |
