| Salvador Dali (1904-89) was a Spanish surrealist painter who joined the Paris Surrealists in 1929. Inspired by Freudian theories of the unconscious Dali painted startling dream images with photographic realism during self-induced hallucinatory states. He lived in New York between 1940 and 1955 during which time he turned to religious subjects and became a Roman Catholic. |
