| Donatello (c.1386-1466) was a Florentine painter. His real name was Donato de Nicolo di Betti Bardi. Donatello was a pioneer of the Renaissance style and first broke with tradition in his marble sculptures of ‘St Mark and St George’ in 1415 for the exterior of Orsanmichele. Donatello modelled the figures as lifelike rather than idealised forms. His works include ‘David,’ ‘Gattamelata’ and ‘Mary Magdalen.’ |
