| Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) was a Dutch painter born in Amersfoot. While in Paris between 1912-14 Mondrian was influenced by Cubism. His first abstract compositions used only horizontal and vertical lines, primary colours, and black and white. Mondrian helped launch the art movement of de Stijl. After 1919 his style, known as neo plasticism, influenced both the Bauhaus school and the international style in architecture. |
