| Henry Moore (1898-1986) was a British sculptor who was born at Castleford in Yorkshire. He studied at Leeds and the Royal College of Art. Moore was fascinated by African and Mexican art and this led to the development of the sculptor’s two characteristic themes, mother and child sculptures and reclining figures. Moore’s celebrated drawings of sleeping figures in air raid shelters of the 1940s, his ‘Madonna and Child,’ and family groups brought him international fame. He also completed a number of abstract pieces such as ‘Atom Piece.’ |
