Ben Nicholson (1894-1982) was a British artist who studied at the Slade before holding his first one-man exhibition in 1922 which reflected the influence of Cubism and de Stijl. During the 1930s Nicholson was a member of the British art group called Unit One. The abstract art he created includes white painted plaster reliefs of rectangles combined with circles.
